This novel uses a precise and polished style to explore the workings of seduction and attrac- tion between opposites. Gabriela heads to her grandfather’s village for the summer with her new driver’s license, to earn her firstpaycheck substituting for the librarian during the holi- days. Once settled, she goes for a swim in the lake. Meanwhile, Quim listens half-heartedly to the instructions of the house owner, where he will work remotely and relax for the next two months. He is in a bad mood and trying to ignore the flashbacks of a party he’d rather for- get, which keep pestering him. After settling, he intends to work out, but the farmhouse bicycle’s chain breaks, so he goes swimming in a nearby lake instead. That’s where they meet, marking the start of their unexpected relationship.
